What to Bring (and What Not to Bring) for Visits at Fentress County Jail
Visiting at Fentress County Jail goes more smoothly when you show up with the right ID, the required paperwork completed, and clothing that meets the dress code—whether you’re visiting in person or remotely.
If you’re 18 or older, plan to complete a visitation form before you visit. Age matters here: you must be at least 18 to conduct visits without an adult present, so anyone under 18 will need to come with an adult rather than trying to visit on their own.
Bring a valid photo ID for check-in when you visit onsite - staff will expect you to show a state-issued ID when you arrive. If you’re visiting remotely, be ready to hold your ID up to the camera if staff asks for it during the visit.
Note: Fentress County Jail uses the same dress code for onsite and remote visits. Revealing or see-through clothing is not allowed, even if you’re visiting from home.
- ✓ No tank tops, camisoles, cut-off shirts, or sports bras - wear a shirt that covers your shoulders and your entire torso (onsite and remote)
- ✓ No skirts or shorts above mid-thigh (onsite and remote)
- ✓ No clothing that displays obscene or offensive images/words (onsite and remote)
If you’re bringing approved items to an inmate, the jail is very specific about what they will accept. Items must be new and unopened, and the allowed quantities are limited to: 3 white T-shirts, 3 white socks, 3 pairs of white underwear, 1 white towel, 1 white washcloth, and 1 set of white or off-white thermals. If a pack contains more than three (for example, socks or underwear), the extras will be returned to you.
- Bring everything at one time - these items must be turned in all at once, and only one time.
- Show your photo ID and sign - you’re required to provide a photo ID and a signature at drop-off.
- Wait while staff searches the items - the items will be searched, and you must remain there until the search is completed.
Warning: If contraband is found when you’re delivering items, you may be prosecuted.
Children 17 and under can visit with a registered adult family member, and minors don’t need separate registration. If you’re bringing little kids, plan ahead for noise and restlessness - if a small child becomes disruptive, take them out to the lobby so other visits aren’t interrupted.
