How to create your TDCJ Online Visitation account (what to avoid so you don't lose access)
Setting up your TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler account is simple—but a couple of early missteps can cause lasting headaches. Follow these steps to avoid getting stuck with an email you can't change or a profile that won't submit.
You have to create your own TDCJ Online Visitation account - staff can't do it for you. Once your account exists, they can help update things like your name or address, but that's about it. The setup steps are entirely on you: picking your email, finishing registration, all of it. Take a few minutes to get it right the first time.
Pick your email carefully - you're stuck with it. Once an account is created, TDCJ won't let you delete it or change the email address. Use one you can reliably access (including the inbox) and won't lose. It's locked in permanently.
- Start the “Create an Account” process - if it’s your first time using the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler, you’ll need an account before you can schedule any visits.
- Enter a valid email address and submit - this is the email your account will be tied to.
- Check your email for the registration message - TDCJ sends an email that includes a 7-digit validation code and a link to finish registering.
- Return to the scheduler and complete the validation - use the link and follow the prompts to re-enter your email and enter the 7-digit code.
- Create your password and submit - once you set a valid password, you’ll move forward to the next part of setup.
After setting your password, you'll land on the Background Questionnaire. Set aside a few minutes to finish it in one sitting - every question must be answered before the system lets you continue.
Once you're in, fill out your Visitor Profile carefully. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required. If something's missing, the system flags it with red text - click "Edit my Profile" to fix it. One detail that trips people up: your phone number must be typed as "XXX XXX XXXX" with spaces, not dashes.
Pre Registration Checklist
- ✓ Plan to create the account yourself (staff can’t create it for you; they can only help update details like names/addresses after the account exists)
- ✓ Pick one email address you can keep long-term (the account can’t be deleted and the email on it can’t be changed)
- ✓ Make sure you can access that email right now (you’ll need the message with the 7-digit validation code and registration link)
- ✓ Set aside time to answer every Background Questionnaire question (you can’t proceed until they’re all answered)
- ✓ Be ready to enter your phone number exactly as “XXX XXX XXXX” with spaces and no dashes
