What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind) When Visiting Florida State Prison
Visiting Florida State Prison goes smoother when you pack light and stick to the approved list. Here's what to bring—and what to leave behind—so you don't get turned away at the entrance.
If you’re 16 or older, you must show a valid photo ID to enter the visiting area. Bring an original, government-issued photo ID you can hand to staff at check-in.
You're only allowed one photo ID. Pick the one you'll use to check in and leave any extras in your car or at home.
Cash and Vending
- ✓ Up to $50.00 cash per visitor (regardless of age)
- ✓ Bills only: $1, $5, $10, and $20
That cash is strictly for vending machines in the visiting area - snacks and drinks only. Everything you buy must be consumed there, and you cannot give money to an inmate under any circumstances.
Bring just one vehicle key. Keyless entry devices are only allowed if the duty warden (or designee) inspects it, confirms it's your only way to access your vehicle, and determines it doesn't pose a security threat.
You can bring limited feminine hygiene products. Pack only what you'll actually need for the visit to avoid issues at the gate.
Need prescription medication during your visit? You can bring it, but only the dose you'll need while you're there. Each medication must be in its original container with a readable label showing the medication type, dosage, and the name of the person it was prescribed to.
Do not bring: Any container that holds more than one type of medication, and never bring needles or syringes into the facility.
Infant Items
- ✓ No more than five (5) diapers
- ✓ No more than three (3) clear baby bottles
- ✓ No more than two (2) toddler sipper cups
- ✓ No more than three (3) clear plastic jars of sealed (unopened) baby food
Staff will search infant carriers and baby items before you enter. Pack so everything's easy to inspect - you don't want to hold up the line or get sent back to your car.
The dress code is enforced at the door. Shirts and shoes are required. Heelys or any footwear with removable parts will get you turned away.
- Bring one valid photo ID (age 16+) - you’ll need it to enter the visiting area.
- Carry only one ID card - leave extra identification elsewhere.
- Pack vending cash the right way - up to $50 per visitor, and only $1/$5/$10/$20 bills.
- Handle prescriptions correctly - bring only the dose you need for the visit, in the original container with a readable label.
- Pack baby items within the limits - stick to the allowed counts for diapers, bottles/cups, and sealed baby food.
- Dress for entry - wear a shirt and shoes, and avoid Heelys or footwear with removable parts.
Heads-up: Misusing vending money (including giving it to an inmate) or bringing prohibited medical items like mixed-medication containers or needles/syringes can get you denied entry.
