What You Can (and Can't) Bring to a Visit at Florida State Prison: Exact Limits and Rules

Bring just one vehicle key. Florida State Prison limits visitors to one (1) vehicle key, and extras count as unauthorized items. You'll need to secure them elsewhere before entering the visiting area.

Keyless fobs aren't automatically allowed: The duty warden (or designee) must visually inspect your keyless entry device and confirm it's your only way to access your vehicle and doesn't pose a security threat.

Anyone 16 or older must present one (1) photographic identification card. Double-check that it's with you before you leave home - no ID means no visit.

Limited feminine hygiene products are allowed. The policy doesn't specify an exact number, so keep it minimal - bring only what you'll need during the visit.

You can bring cash for vending machines, but the limit is strict: up to $50.00 per visitor, regardless of age. Bills must be $1, $5, $10, or $20 denominations only.

Anything you buy from vending machines - snacks or drinks - has to be finished in the visiting area. You can't save it for later.

Do not hand money to the inmate: Under no circumstances may visitors give money to an inmate.

Bring only the dosage of prescription medication you'll need during the visit. No extra "just in case" doses - only what's required while you're inside.

Keep prescriptions in their original containers. The label must be clearly readable and show the medication type, dosage requirements, and the name of the person it was prescribed to.

Infant Items

  • No more than five (5) diapers
  • No more than three (3) clear baby bottles
  • No more than two (2) toddler sipper cups
  • No more than three (3) clear plastic jars of sealed (unopened) baby food

For baby and toddler supplies, packaging matters as much as quantity. Bottles must be clear. Baby food must be in sealed, clear plastic jars. Stick to the limits: five diapers, three bottles, two sippy cups, and three jars. Anything over gets treated as unauthorized and won't make it through.

Show up with unlisted items or over-the-limit quantities? You'll need to find a secure location for them during your visit (assuming they're not contraband or illegal). Plan ahead so you're not scrambling at the entrance.

Avoid bringing “maybe” items: Unlisted items and over-the-limit quantities can be refused at the door, and keyless entry devices require visual inspection and approval before they’ll be allowed.
