How to Set Up a ConnectNetwork (AdvancePay/PIN Debit) Account for a Fluvanna Inmate — and avoid inactivity forfeiture
If your loved one at Fluvanna is trying to call you, collect calls work at first - but only up to a point. VADOC limits the number of collect calls an inmate can place before the phone system requires a prepaid method. Set up a prepaid account now, and you won't be scrambling when calls suddenly stop going through.
Set up and fund a prepaid phone account through the ConnectNetwork website. This is how family and friends deposit money so they can receive calls from a VADOC inmate.
Prefer to handle things by phone? Call ConnectNetwork toll-free at 1-800-483-8314 for help setting up a pre-pay phone plan.
- Start at ConnectNetwork - Use the ConnectNetwork website to begin creating your account.
- Pick the right location - When prompted, select “VA” as the state and then choose “Department of Corrections.”
- Enter the inmate’s state ID - You’ll need the inmate’s 7-digit state ID number to continue.
- Follow the prompts to finish setup - Complete the remaining steps ConnectNetwork asks for to finish creating your account.
- Make your deposit - Once your account is set up, you can deposit money into the prepaid phone account so you can receive collect calls from your loved one.
Tip: Double-check the inmate’s 7-digit state ID before you submit it. That number is required to set up and fund the account correctly.
Once you've created an AdvancePay account, keep it active. ConnectNetwork forfeits accounts after 180 consecutive days of inactivity (effective Dec 28, 2022).
You may get a warning before that happens. ConnectNetwork says it may send email or text reminders - for example, 30 days before expiration - so make sure your contact info is current and opt in to alerts if the option is available.
- ✓ Put a recurring reminder on your calendar well before 180 days so the account doesn’t sit unused
- ✓ Use the account periodically so it doesn’t go inactive
- ✓ Keep your email and mobile number up to date so reminders can reach you
- ✓ If you receive an “about to expire” alert, act right away (for example, by using the account)
Need money back from an AdvancePay account? ConnectNetwork says you can request a refund by calling customer service at 877-650-4249.
When you call, be ready to verify details so they can locate your account. Have the account information and your loved one's identifying details handy - it'll speed things up.
Security note: ConnectNetwork posted a notice about an August 2020 Telmate data breach with details and mitigation steps. Treat your ConnectNetwork login like any financial account - use a strong password and watch your statements.
