How to Bond Someone Out of Forsyth County Jail: The 3 Options (cash, bonding company, or property)

If you're trying to get someone released from Forsyth County Jail, you have three ways to post bond. The right choice usually comes down to whether you can pay the full amount in cash, prefer to work with a bonding company (for a fee), or want to use real property (which can take longer).

Forsyth County offers three ways to bond someone out: pay cash in person, use an approved bonding company, or put up real property. Most families pay cash when they have the full bond amount on hand. A bonding company makes sense if you'd rather pay a percentage fee instead of the full amount. Property bonds work when cash isn't an option, but they take longer to process.

Forsyth County keeps an approved list of bonding companies. You'll find the approved agencies displayed on a large screen mounted at the back of the jail lobby.

You'll handle this in person at the Forsyth County Jail. A representative from the bonding company will meet you in the lobby and walk you through the process.

Fee reminder: Bonding companies are allowed by law to charge up to 15% of the total bond amount as their fee.

No referrals: Jail staff are restricted by law and cannot refer or recommend a bonding company.

Forsyth County Jail accepts cash only for bond payments. Money orders, business checks, and personal checks are not accepted.

  1. Go to the Forsyth County Jail - the full bonding process has to be completed in person.
  2. Find the bonding window inside the main lobby - it’s located inside the jail’s main lobby at the Veterans Memorial intersection.
  3. Pay the bond in cash at the window - cash is the only accepted form of payment.

Heads up: If you’re planning to pay the bond yourself, bring cash. Checks and money orders will not be accepted.

Option3 Property

  • Property deed
  • Most recent paid property tax bill

Forsyth County also allows property bonds, but the equity requirement is strict. The encumbered equity must be at least double the bond amount for the property to qualify.

Property bonds take time. Forsyth County warns they may need several days to process because a deed search has to be conducted. If the bond is accepted, a lien will be placed on the property until the case is adjudicated.

Plan ahead: For a property bond, you’ll need to bring the deed and most recent paid property tax bill, and you should expect a multi-day process while the deed search is completed.

All three options bring you to the same place: the bonding window inside the main lobby of the Forsyth County Jail. The jail notes it is located at the Veterans Memorial intersection.

Even if you're working with a bonding company, you need to come in person to complete the bonding process. The final steps happen at the jail, not by mail or over the phone.

Don't ask for a recommendation: Forsyth County jail staff are prohibited by law from referring you to a bonding company.

  • Bring cash if you’re paying the bond yourself
  • Do not bring money orders, business checks, or personal checks (they are not accepted)

Going the bonding company route? Ask up front what you'll owe. By law, bonding companies can charge up to 15% of the total bond amount as their fee.
