What Are Contact Visits at Fort Stockton Unit? Rules and What to Expect
Contact visits allow limited physical contact during your visit, though the rules are strict. If you're planning a visit at Fort Stockton Unit, know that your options depend on the unit's setup and the incarcerated person's visitation privileges.
Fort Stockton Unit offers several visit types under TDCJ rules: Regular, Contact, and Video/Tablet. Contact visits allow limited physical contact. That said, don't assume every option will be available to you. What you can request depends on how the unit's visitation area is set up and the incarcerated person's current privileges.
- ✓ One embrace and one kiss are permitted at the beginning of the visit, and one embrace and one kiss are permitted at the end of the visit.
- ✓ Holding hands is allowed only if your hands stay on top of the table, in full view of staff.
If you don't see a contact visit option, that doesn't mean you did something wrong. Visit types depend on your relationship to the inmate, how the visiting area is designed, and the inmate's privileges. Two approved visitors for the same person might see different options based on what the system allows them to request.
- Create your own visitation scheduler account. Visitors must set up their own accounts, unit staff cannot create visitor accounts for you.
- Sign in and start a visit request. Once you are logged in, go into the scheduling flow for the person you want to visit.
- Look for “Contact” under visit type options. The scheduler can list multiple visit types (such as Regular, Contact, and Video/Tablet), but not all types may be available based on the unit’s visitation area design and the inmate’s visitation privileges.
- Double-check the options before you finalize. If “Contact” is not selectable, choose the available visit type and plan around that instead of assuming contact visits are offered for that visit.
If contact visits aren't available for your situation, you may still be able to schedule a regular (non-contact) visit. Another option is Remote Video (kiosk) visits, when the unit offers them. These must be scheduled through the vendor website, not the same process as in-person visits. When Remote Video visits are offered and the inmate is eligible, they're available once per month for up to 60 minutes. This type of visit is in addition to contact or general visits, so it can be a helpful way to stay connected when travel or scheduling is difficult.
Note: Policies and availability can change based on the unit's visiting area and the incarcerated person's privileges. Contact Fort Stockton Unit directly to confirm what visit types are currently available and whether any temporary restrictions apply.
