  3. Finish initial classification (generally within two weeks) - ADOC typically completes reception and initial classification within about two weeks after arrival.
  4. Receive the Time Sheet shortly after - after initial classification, the inmate should receive a “Time Sheet.”

During reception, your loved one will be assigned a Classification Specialist. This staff member helps ensure proper classification and connects them with the programs they'll need. Classification isn't a single decision - it's an ongoing process. ADOC uses it to determine custody level, build a program plan, and make other assignments based on everything gathered during reception.

  • Your loved one may contact their Classification Specialist by request slip or by signing up for the specialist’s Open House meetings.
  • A Job Placement Board will assign an institutional job as the regular work assignment.
