How to Send Money to a GDCP Inmate: Free Money Order Voucher vs. JPay Fees

2 min read Verified from official sources

Before you can send money to someone at GDCP (a GDC facility), you need to be on their approved visitor list. To get approved, fill out the Visitation Request Form and submit it to the facility where your loved one is housed. This approval step comes first, even if you have no plans to visit in person and just want to help cover basics.

Rule to know: You must be on the offender’s approved visitor list to use any payment method to send money.

Want to skip online transfer fees? GDC offers a free money order voucher you can create, print, and mail in. It's the best option when saving on fees matters more than speed. Just plan ahead. GDC advises allowing up to two weeks for the voucher to arrive and be processed, so this isn't ideal for last-minute needs.

Jpay Fees

  • JPay Internet Funds Transfer: $0.01 to $20.00, $3.50 per transaction
  • JPay Internet Funds Transfer: $20.01 to $100.00, $5.00 per transaction
  • JPay Internet Funds Transfer: $100.01 to $300.00, $6.50 per transaction

If you use JPay, deposits aren't the only cost to watch for. Some add-on services have their own pricing, so it helps to know what might hit your card. Video visitation, for example, is listed at $3.95 for 30 minutes. JPay email also carries charges: $0.35 per electronic stamp and $1.05 per attachment (up to 3 attachments).

Help is available: Need a hand sending money through JPay? GDC offers access to a live agent 24/7 for deposit assistance.

If you can plan ahead, the free money order voucher is the cheapest route. Just give it time. GDC says to allow up to two weeks for mail and processing. Need funds to arrive faster? JPay is the more convenient option, though you'll pay a transaction fee based on the amount you send. The fees are tiered, so bundling transfers into one larger payment usually saves money compared to sending several smaller ones close together.

  • If you can wait up to two weeks for mail and processing, use the free money order voucher.
  • If you need to send money sooner, use JPay and plan around the tiered per-transaction fees.
  • If you’re unsure about a JPay deposit or run into a problem, use the 24/7 live agent support for deposits.
