How to Visit Facility

Visitation at GA Diagnostic Class Prison is split by status. TIER III STEP program offenders have visitation on Wednesdays and Fridays in three time blocks: 9:00am to 11:00am, 11:00am to 1:00pm, and 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Diagnostic offenders follow a separate schedule. Their visitation days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 9:00am to 1:00pm. There are additional restrictions, too: Diagnostic offenders cannot receive visits until they've been at GDCP for 60 days, and only immediate family members are allowed to visit.

Note: All visits for offenders assigned to the STEP program must be scheduled in advance.

How to Visit Facility

Steps to Follow

  • Confirm whether your loved one is a TIER III STEP program offender or a Diagnostic offender, since the visit days and hours are different.
  • If they are in TIER III STEP, plan for a Wednesday or Friday visit and aim for one of the available time blocks (9:00am to 11:00am, 11:00am to 1:00pm, or 1:00pm to 3:00pm).
  • If they are a Diagnostic offender, plan to visit Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday between 9:00am and 1:00pm.
  1. Schedule the visit in advance (STEP program). If your loved one is assigned to the STEP program, you will need to schedule the visit ahead of time.
  2. Use the visitation page tools to update plans. To add visitors to a previously scheduled visit, use the “Add Visitor” link on the visitation page. To cancel a scheduled visit, use the “Cancel my visit” link.

If your loved one is a Diagnostic offender, verify the timing before making the trip. They cannot receive visits until they've been at GDCP for 60 days, so showing up earlier will almost certainly result in a denied visit. Also confirm who qualifies as "immediate family" in your situation, since only immediate family members can visit Diagnostic offenders. The state's visitation information lists examples: parents, brothers, sisters, spouse, grandparents, grandchildren, and children.

Before you lock in travel plans, confirm the current days and time windows for your loved one's status. For TIER III STEP program offenders, visitation is on Wednesdays and Fridays with three set time blocks (9:00am to 11:00am, 11:00am to 1:00pm, and 1:00pm to 3:00pm). For Diagnostic offenders, visitation runs Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Schedules and procedures can change, so double-check the latest official visitation information right before you go.

Note: If you're scheduling STEP visitation, make sure you understand the advance-scheduling process. Need to make changes later? The visitation page includes options to add visitors ("Add Visitor") or cancel the appointment ("Cancel my visit").
