How to Get Your Child’s Visitation Schedule at Galveston County Juvenile Detention
Galveston County Juvenile Detention doesn't run on a single visitation schedule. Your visiting days depend on which unit your child is assigned to. Once you know the unit, you can match it to the right days and plan around the evening visiting window.
Good to know: The visitation schedule is made available to parents/guardians no later than the second day of detention. To get it, call and ask to speak with the Intake Officer on duty.
- Call the facility as soon as you can (don’t wait past day two) - the visitation schedule is provided to parents/guardians no later than the second day of detention.
- Ask for the Intake Officer on duty - this is the person you’re directed to speak with to get the visitation schedule.
- Request your child’s visitation schedule - make sure you get both the unit assignment and the next eligible visitation day while you’re on the phone.
When you talk to Intake, listen for the unit letter. That's what determines your visiting days. Here's how it breaks down: Unit A visits are Wednesday and Saturday. Unit B visits are Sunday and Wednesday. Unit C visits are Monday and Friday. Unit D visits are Friday and Monday. Want to plan quickly? Ask Intake to confirm the unit and tell you the next available day. Saves you from guessing - and from showing up on the wrong day.
Reminder: Unit assignment controls the schedule, so confirm your child’s unit with Intake when you call.
Visiting hours run from 6:15pm to 7:45pm, scheduled by unit assignment. When you call Intake, ask what time you should arrive and check in - don't cut it close.
Schedules can shift. During declared emergencies, the facility may modify visitation access, so re-check before you make the drive if anything unusual is happening. The facility may also arrange special visitation in certain situations - like before a transfer to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. If your child's case might involve a transfer or another time-sensitive change, call and ask what options are available now.
