How to Visit Someone at Garfield County Jail: In-Person Booths vs. Remote Video Calls
Garfield County Jail offers two ways to video visit: public booths at the jail or remote calls from your own device. Which works best depends on whether you can get to the Jail Reception area—and whether you're willing to pay for an internet or mobile visit.
For on-site visits, head to the public video booths in the Jail Reception room on the north side of the building. This works well if you're already in town and can come during visiting hours. Can't make it in person? Video visits are also available through the internet or a mobile app. You'll need to create an account with GettingOut, and remote visits cost money. Quality depends on your internet speed, device specs, and signal strength - so a spotty connection can mean a frustrating visit.
Note: Remote video visits run through GettingOut. Set up your account ahead of time so you're not troubleshooting when your visit is supposed to start.
Visits are available daily during three time blocks: 8:00 am–11:00 am, 1:00 pm–4:00 pm, and 7:30 pm–10:30 pm. Plan your trip - or your remote login - around these windows.

- ✓ Public video booth visits are limited to 15 minutes.
- ✓ If you’re using the public booths, you may only visit 1 inmate per day.
Just because visiting hours are posted doesn't mean your person is available. Inmates are responsible for telling visitors when they can take video calls, and not everyone is available during all windows. Also, inmates serving disciplinary sanctions can't receive visits. If you're driving to the jail or paying for a remote session, confirm with your loved one that they'll actually be available.
For remote visits, you'll use GettingOut - either through a web browser or by downloading the mobile app. Create an account first, and expect to pay a fee. Remote visits come with the usual tech headaches. Video quality can drop or disconnect entirely depending on your internet service, your device, and your wireless or mobile signal. If your connection tends to be unreliable, find somewhere with steadier service before your visit starts.
Tip: Check GettingOut for accepted payment methods and current system requirements before you schedule or start a remote visit.
- Pick your visit type early - Decide whether you’re going to the public video booths in Jail Reception or visiting remotely through GettingOut (which is fee-based).
- If you’re using the booths, arrive with time to spare - Booths are first come, first serve, so showing up early improves your chances.
- Confirm your loved one expects to be available - Inmates are responsible for notifying visitors of the times they can conduct visits, and not all inmates are available during the regular video visitation windows.
- Go in with a plan for the time limits - Public booth visits are 15 minutes, and booth visitors may only visit 1 inmate per day, so prioritize what you want to cover.
- If you’re visiting remotely, prep your tech - Connection speed/quality and your device can affect the visit, so get on a reliable internet/mobile signal before you start.
Warning: Inmates under disciplinary sanctions can't receive visits. Confirm availability before you make the drive or pay for a remote session.
