How to Set Up Your First Video Visit at Garland County Detention Center
Video visits at Garland County Detention Center run through the Smart Communications system (Smart.JailMail and SmartInmate). That's where you'll create your account, receive a connection request from your loved one, and get approved before any visits can be scheduled. Signing up for an account is free.
You may notice Smart Communications in other parts of your loved one's communication too, like postal mail. At Garland County Detention Center, inmate mail is routed through Smart Communications at: Smart Communications / Garland Co. Det. Ctr., PO Box 9141, Seminole, FL 33775-9141 (include the inmate's name and booking/ID number).
The first move happens on your loved one's side. They need to send you a connection request through Smart.JailMail. Once they do, you'll see the request in your account. Approve it, and then you can move on to scheduling a visit. Without that approval, no visit can be booked.
- Create your SmartInmate / Smart.JailMail account (free) so you have a place to receive and manage visit connections.
- Look for the connection request from your loved one in your account. If you do not see it right away, check any notifications tied to the email/phone you used to register.
- Approve the connection request. Garland County requires your approval before your loved one can schedule the visit.
Whether you're planning an on-site video visit or a remote visit from home, you need an appointment. Garland County Detention Center requires all visits to be scheduled ahead of time. Don't plan to show up or log in without a confirmed booking.
- ✓ On-site video visits: schedule through the video visitation vendor at least 24 hours in advance.
- ✓ Off-site (remote) video visits: schedule through the video visitation vendor at least 24 hours in advance.
- ✓ Off-site (remote) visits have a charge, and the price is listed on the vendor’s website.
Note: Build in at least a 24-hour buffer. Both on-site and remote visits must be scheduled through the vendor portal, and last-minute scheduling isn't allowed.
Troubleshooting Tips
- ✓ If you cannot schedule anything yet, make sure your loved one has sent the Smart.JailMail connection request. You cannot approve what has not been sent.
- ✓ If you think the request was sent, sign in and look carefully for the pending connection request (it is easy to miss if you only check email notifications).
- ✓ Before you head to the detention center (or set aside time at home), confirm you have an appointment scheduled. Garland County requires an appointment to visit.
