Bringing children to visit at MacDougall‑Walker: ID requirements and rules
Bringing kids to a visit is doable, but the rules are specific. Here's what children need to bring, how they count toward visitor limits, and what's required for video visits.
Kids under 16 need two forms of documentation: a valid birth certificate plus one additional document with the child's name on it. The second document can be something simple - a report card or Social Security card works. Missing either one? The child can be turned away at check-in. Set both aside the night before to avoid any surprises.
The facility allows no more than two visitors total for in-person visits - and children count toward that limit. If you're bringing a child, figure out ahead of time who else will come in with you. Showing up with three people means someone gets turned away.
Minors can join a video visit, but only with a parent or guardian present. There are two exceptions: the facility won't allow a minor to participate if they're considered a victim of the incarcerated person, or if there's an active protective order in place. If either situation applies, leave the child off the video visit - otherwise the session will be denied.
