What Happens to Photos, Messages, and Balances When CDCR Switches from ViaPath to Securus

CDCR is switching from ViaPath to Securus under a new statewide telecommunications contract awarded to Securus Technologies, LLC on February 21, 2025. If your loved one is at this institution, they'll stay on ViaPath for now - the switch won't happen until this facility's scheduled transition is complete.

Anything you've paid for through ViaPath stays with ViaPath. Once the switch happens and your loved one is using a Securus tablet, those ViaPath photos, e-messages, and media won't show up on the new device. If there's anything you want to keep, save copies now while you still have access through ViaPath.

Have unused money in your family ViaPath account? You can request a refund by contacting the ViaPath call center. That's the route CDCR directs families to for unused balances.

Balances on your loved one's side work differently. When this institution transitions, any ViaPath balance they have will be refunded automatically to their institutional trust account.

During the transition, tablets get exchanged - incarcerated people turn in their ViaPath tablet and receive a new Securus one. Until that happens here, your loved one will continue using ViaPath.
