Video Visits vs In-Person Visits at George W. Hill: How the One-Visit-Per-Week Rule Works

George W. Hill allows one visit per week for each incarcerated person. That visit can be either video or in-person - but not both. Complete a video visit on Tuesday? That's your weekly slot used. The same goes if you visit in person.

Note: Your one weekly visit must follow the scheduling rules - you'll need a GTL account, and visits must be booked at least 2 days ahead but no more than 7 days out.

In-person visits run Monday through Friday, 8:45am to 10:00pm. The catch: available time slots depend on where your loved one is housed. Check the booking system to see what's actually open.

Video visits are also Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 9:55pm. Like in-person visits, the times you can book depend on housing assignment.

  • Create your visitor account on the GTL visitation site (you’ll make a username and password as part of setup).
  • Schedule your visit within the booking window: at least 2 days in advance, and no more than 7 days in advance.

Reminder: Video visits must be done from a remote location - you can’t conduct the video visit while you’re on facility grounds.

Video Visits vs In-Person Visits at George W. Hill: How the One-Visit-Per-Week Rule Works

Video visits work well when you need flexibility. Connect from home or anywhere offsite - just not from facility grounds. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 9:55pm, with available slots based on your loved one's housing assignment.

Sometimes being there in person matters most. In-person visits are Monday through Friday, 8:45am to 10:00pm. Bookable times vary by housing assignment, so check what's available for your loved one before planning your trip.

  1. Set up your GTL visitor account - you’ll need it to move forward with scheduling.
  2. Pick which visit you want to use this week - video or in-person, since both count as the same one weekly visit.
  3. Book within the allowed window - schedule at least 2 days ahead, but no more than 7 days in advance.

The official guidance covers the 2-to-7-day booking window but doesn't explain what happens if you accidentally double-book, need to cancel, or want to switch from video to in-person mid-week. Since the weekly limit is strict, treat your first successful booking as final unless the system clearly shows otherwise.

  • Use your GTL account details and any approval/confirmation messages to confirm you’re cleared to schedule.
  • Before you lock in a time, double-check that the slot you’re choosing matches the type of visit you want to use for the week (video or in-person).
