How to Mail a Letter to Someone at Grants NM Corrections
Mail rules can feel picky, but here's the key detail: personal mail for NMCD facilities has to go to a centralized mailing address—not directly to the facility.
To reach someone at Grants NM Corrections, send your letter to NMCD's centralized mailing address. Mail sent directly to the facility gets returned - adding days to your delivery time. Double-check the correct centralized address before you drop anything in the mailbox.
Note: If you’re unsure which centralized address to use, contact NMCD Family Constituent Services at CDFamilySrvcs@cd.nm.gov or call (505) 827-8710 or (505) 231-4762.
Once NMCD receives your mail, letters are held for no more than 48 hours before processing. Packages (when allowed) are held up to 72 hours. Weekends, holidays, and emergencies don't count toward those timeframes, so expect extra delays around closures.
Worried your loved one can't afford to write back? NMCD provides some basics. Indigent inmates - plus those in Reception and Diagnostic (RDC) and Special Management - receive two envelopes and two sheets of writing paper each week. All inmates also get NMCD-paid postage for two first-class letters per week to help them stay connected.
Note: The weekly writing materials (two envelopes + two sheets) apply to indigent/RDC/Special Management inmates; the two first-class letters’ postage is provided for all inmates.
Trying to help one incarcerated person write to another? NMCD limits inmate-to-inmate mail. It's only allowed between immediate family members, and both wardens - sending and receiving - must give documented approval.
Before mailing anything, verify the correct NMCD centralized address for the person you're writing at Grants. Using the right address keeps your letter from bouncing back and avoids preventable delays. Questions? NMCD Family Constituent Services can help.
