How to Visit Facility

Note: Staff will pat-search all inmates and visitors before visitation. Keep that in mind when choosing your clothing and deciding what to bring.

If you are 18 or older, bring identification that includes your photograph. Staff use this to confirm who you are before you’re allowed in, so don’t leave it in the car.

Visits are tied to the inmate’s approved visitors list. An inmate can have up to 20 visitors on that list, and children under 18 do not count toward the total.

If you’re under 18 and you want to be approved to visit, your parent or legal guardian has to sign the Visitor Request Form. Without that signature, the request will be denied.

You can bring kids with you, but be ready to prove guardianship. Acceptable documentation includes a birth certificate, court papers, or adoption papers, as long as it verifies your relationship and legal authority.

  1. Submit a Visitor Application Form - All visitors must turn in an application before they can be approved. Paper forms can be mailed to ODOC headquarters in Oklahoma City, and the form must be addressed to the Visitation Unit (not to the inmate): Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Attn: Visitation Unit, P.O. Box 11400, Oklahoma City, OK 73136-0400.
  2. Wait for the background check if you’re 18+ - Background checks are required for visitors 18 and older, and approval can take up to eight weeks. The inmate will be notified when the process is complete.
  • Photo ID for every visitor age 18+
  • If bringing a minor, documentation to verify guardianship (for example, a birth certificate or court or adoption papers)
  • If the visitor applying is under 18, the parent or legal guardian signature on the Visitor Request Form

Warning: Falsifying information or purposely leaving details out on the Visitor Request Form can get your visitation privileges denied. You'd then have to wait 90 days to reapply.

Before making plans, confirm you're actually on the inmate's approved visitors list and that there's room to add you. The list caps at 20 visitors, and children under 18 don't count toward that number.

Double-check the application details before you send anything. All visitors must submit a Visitor Application Form. Paper forms are accepted at ODOC headquarters as long as they're addressed to the Visitation Unit (not the inmate). If you're 18 or older, plan for the background check. Approval can take up to eight weeks, and the inmate is the one who gets notified when it's complete.

  • What forms of photo ID are accepted for visitors age 18+
  • What guardianship documents they will accept for minors (birth certificate vs. court or adoption papers)
  • If a visitor is under 18, how the parent or legal guardian signature must be provided on the Visitor Request Form

If you're being added as a visitor, check where you stand on the approved list before you go. Inmates can have up to 20 approved visitors, and children under 18 don't count against that limit.

It's also worth confirming how strictly policies are being enforced right now so you're not caught off guard at the door. Staff conduct pat searches on all inmates and visitors before visitation. The paperwork rules carry real consequences, too: anyone who falsifies or purposely omits information on the Visitor Request Form can lose visitation privileges and must wait 90 days to reapply.
