Planning Your First Visit to Greene Correctional Facility: Arrival Times, Visitor Limits, and What to Expect

Greene allows one visit per visiting day. Planning to bring family? Each visit can include up to three visitors, plus one child under age five. That child must sit on an adult's lap during the visit, so plan your group before you arrive.

Note: Greene’s facility page points you to the DOCCS Visitors Page for additional visitation information - check it before you go for the most current rules and reminders.

General population visiting hours run from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. If you're factoring in travel time, aim to arrive early enough to get checked in before visiting starts.

There's also a set arrival window for general population visits. You can arrive as early as 7:30 AM, but no later than 2:00 PM. Even though visiting hours continue until 3:30 PM, showing up after the 2:00 PM cutoff means you won't be admitted.

Visitation at Greene happens on weekends, but it's not a simple "show up any weekend" setup. Weekend visits are divided into segments based on the last digit of the incarcerated person's DIN (Department Identification Number). Before you leave home, match their DIN's last digit to the facility's posted schedule - this tells you which weekend is theirs.

If the visiting room fills up, Greene has an overcrowding procedure. Staff will first ask if any visitors are willing to end their visit early to free up space.

  1. Wait for the volunteer request first - staff will ask for volunteers to end visits before moving to forced terminations.
  2. Plan around the three-hour mark if you’re local - if there are no volunteers and space is still limited, visits from people within 100 miles of the facility can be terminated after three hours, using a first-in, first-out order.
  1. Expect another three-hour cutoff if overcrowding continues - if the space problem isn’t resolved after local visits are addressed, the facility can begin terminating visits after three hours even when family or friends traveled over 100 miles.
  2. Know how the order works - terminations are handled on a first-in, first-out basis.
