Paying for Civil Process in Guilford County: Fees, Accepted Payment Methods, and Who to Call

For in-state papers, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office Legal Process Division charges $30 per person served. If you’re serving more than one person, plan on the fee applying to each person individually.

Out-of-state papers, U.S. courts, and federal court papers run $50 per person served. Same rule applies: you're charged per person, not per case.

Note: The office requires one original or true certified copy, plus one copy for each person to be served.

Civil process fees must be paid by cash, money order, or cashier’s check. Personal checks aren’t accepted, so make sure you’re using one of the approved payment types before you submit your paperwork.

If you’re paying by money order or cashier’s check, make it payable to: Office of the Sheriff of Guilford County. Using the correct payee name helps prevent delays in processing.

Some cases involve levy fees connected to seizing and selling property, including real property, vehicles, and personal property. Those costs are separate from standard service fees and can vary based on what’s involved.
