How Ministers Get Approved to Visit Inmates at Greenville County Detention Center
Ministerial visits at Greenville County Detention Center begin with an initial visit, followed by a short approval process. Here's how the paperwork works, what you'll need to submit, and what happens once you're approved.
After your first visit at Greenville County Detention Center, you should receive an Application for Ministerial Visitation Approval Form before leaving. This form kicks off the approval process for ongoing ministerial visits. Complete it and return it to the Detention Center as directed.
Submit your completed paperwork to the Support Services Sergeant or Lieutenant at the Detention Center. That's where all ministerial visitation applications go.
Required Documents
- ✓ Copy of a valid South Carolina driver’s license
- ✓ Copy of your certificate of ordination
- ✓ Your church affiliation business card (original)
- ✓ A church bulletin that shows your name (original)
Note: The church business card and the church bulletin must be originals - copies aren’t accepted for those items.
By submitting your application, you're authorizing Greenville County Detention Center to run a criminal background investigation. This includes fingerprinting as part of the process.
Once the Detention Center receives your application, expect a written approval or denial within 10 days. If you're planning regular visits, factor that timeline into your schedule.
Once approved, your name goes on the approved ministers list in Reception Control. For future visits, just bring a picture ID - that's all you'll need to get in.
