How to Schedule Your First Visit at Greenville County Detention Center

Greenville County Detention Center offers visitation seven days a week. Each inmate gets two visits per week, with each visit lasting 30 minutes - so planning ahead matters, especially if you're coordinating with family. One more thing: visits may be monitored and recorded. Assume anything said could be reviewed.

Before visiting, confirm you're on the inmate's approved visitor list. Greenville County limits that list to three adults - fewer than many families expect. The list can only be updated once every 30 days, so if your name isn't on it yet, you may need to wait.

Bringing kids? Plan your group carefully. A single visit can include one adult and up to two minor children. If children are coming, designate one adult as the visitor for that trip.

How to Schedule Your First Visit at Greenville County Detention Center

For Building Four video visits, head to the Building Four Video Visitation Office - it's in the public lobby of Building Two. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week, with the last visit accepted at 5:30 p.m. Visits are first-come, first-serve, so arriving earlier gives you more flexibility if it's busy.

If the person you're visiting is in Building One, Two, or Four, visits work on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can't just pick any time - visit slots depend on the inmate's classification, housing area, status, and privilege level. Be flexible. Your visit time may shift based on where they're housed and what they're currently eligible for.

Tip: Before you travel, call or visit the Detention Center to confirm where the inmate is housed - housing is subject to change.

Bring a picture ID. The name on it must match the name on the inmate's visitor list exactly. If your legal name has changed or you go by something different day-to-day, make sure everything lines up before you go.

  • Driver’s license
  • State ID card
  • Other picture ID

You'll hand over your ID at check-in - it's required before entering. In exchange, you'll get a visitor badge. Keep it visible the entire time. When your visit ends, return the badge and you'll get your ID back.

Visits are structured and time-limited. Each inmate gets two visits per week, and each one runs 30 minutes. Arrive ready to check in so you can make the most of your time.

Note: Visits may be monitored and recorded, so avoid sharing anything you wouldn’t want repeated or reviewed later.
