What to Wear (and What Not to Bring) When Visiting Greenville County Detention Center
Visiting someone at Greenville County Detention Center goes smoothly when you dress right and leave prohibited items behind. Follow these guidelines to avoid delays—or getting turned away at the door.
The dress code here is conservative, and staff enforce it. Short-shorts, miniskirts, bathing suits, halter tops, or anything revealing can get you turned away. Stick to simple, covered-up clothing. If it would draw attention at airport security, leave it at home.
Prohibited Items
- ✓ Cellular phones
- ✓ Cameras
- ✓ Purses
- ✓ Bags
- ✓ Tobacco products
- ✓ Lighters
- ✓ Flame-producing devices
- ✓ Mace
- ✓ Chemical sprays
- ✓ Firearms
- ✓ Weapons of any type
Bring a photo ID that matches the name on the inmate's visitor list exactly. A driver's license, state ID, or other government-issued photo ID works. If the names don't match, you may be turned away. Not sure how your name appears on the list? Sort that out before making the trip.
- Hand over your picture ID at check-in - your ID must be surrendered so staff can issue you a visitor badge before you’re allowed into the facility.
- Wear your visitor badge where it can be seen - keep it visible at all times while you’re inside the secure portion of the facility.
- Return the badge when your visit ends - once you turn in the visitor badge, staff will return your identification card to you.
Warning: Providing or attempting to provide contraband to an inmate is a felony under South Carolina law (24-7-155), and violators will be prosecuted.
