Quick Checklist

  • Cell phones
  • Cameras
  • Purses and bags
  • Tobacco products
  • Lighters and other flame-producing devices
  • Mace and chemical sprays
  • Firearms
  • Weapons of any type

Expect security screening when you arrive. Detention Staff search all visitors, bags, and parcels before entry.

Plan to dress conservatively for your visit. If your outfit is considered too revealing, you can be turned away and won’t be allowed to visit.

  • Short-shorts
  • Miniskirts
  • Bathing suits
  • Halter tops
  • Other revealing clothing

At check-in, you'll hand over your picture ID. Staff will give you a visitor badge - keep it visible the entire time you're in the secure area. When your visit ends, return the badge and you'll get your ID back.

Searches are standard here. Detention Staff check all visitors, bags, and parcels during check-in.

Show up with a cell phone, camera, purse, tobacco, lighter, chemical spray, or any weapon? You won't get past screening. These items are exactly what the search process is designed to catch.

Note: Providing or attempting to provide contraband to an inmate is a felony under South Carolina law, and violators will be prosecuted.

  1. Stop and check what you have before you enter - If you notice a phone, a lighter, or tobacco products on you, don’t take them toward the secure area.
  2. Secure the item outside the facility - Keep prohibited items out of the detention center entirely so they don’t become an issue during a search.
  3. Never try to pass anything to an inmate - Even an attempt to provide contraband is treated seriously; it’s a felony in South Carolina and people who violate the rule will be prosecuted.
