How to Contact an Inmate at Facility
Getting in touch with someone in custody usually comes down to three options: secure messages, video visits, and mail. Here's how communication works at Guilford County's detention centers, plus the details you'll want to confirm before making plans.
Secure messaging has to start from the inmate's side. They send the first message to a valid cell phone number using the secure messaging app on the inmate tablets. Once they do, you'll get a text notification with a link to set up an account. From there, you can view messages and send replies.
You'll need to register before scheduling any visits. Register online at IWebVisit.com or in person at either facility, then schedule your visit once you're approved. Planning to visit remotely from your own device? Expect a usage-based fee. One more thing: there's no visitation (in-person or remote) on Mondays at the Greensboro and High Point detention centers.
In-person visits are free, but they're not face-to-face. You'll use a monitor in a designated space where you're out of view of the inmate. For legal (privileged) mail, send it directly to the appropriate facility address. Make sure the envelope includes the inmate's full name and inmate ID number so it gets routed correctly.

- Have the inmate send the first message: They must start the thread by messaging a valid cell phone number from the inmate tablet.
- Open the text you receive and set up your account: When the inmate messages you, you will get a text notification with a link to create an account so you can view and send messages.
- Register before you try to schedule: Register online at IWebVisit.com or in person at either facility.
- Schedule your visit after registration: You cannot schedule until you are registered.
- Decide between remote and in-person: Remote visits (from your personal smart device) have a usage-based fee. In-person visits are free.
- Avoid Mondays: There is no visitation (in-person or remote) on Mondays at the Greensboro and High Point detention centers.
- Know what “in-person” looks like: In-person visitation is done via a monitor in a designated space out of view of the inmate.
- ✓ Address legal (privileged) mail to the appropriate facility address (not to a third party).
- ✓ Include the inmate’s full name on the envelope.
- ✓ Include the inmate’s ID number on the envelope.
- ✓ Greensboro location: 400 West Market St, Greensboro, NC 27401

Before you travel or pay for a remote visit, confirm the current registration and scheduling process. Registration is required and can be done online at IWebVisit.com or in person at either facility. Double-check the usage-based fees for remote visits, and remember: no visitation on Mondays at the Greensboro and High Point detention centers.
If messaging is your main plan, confirm the setup steps with your loved one ahead of time. The inmate needs to send the first message to a valid cell phone number. You should then receive a text with a link to create your account so you can read and reply.
- ✓ Confirm the correct facility address for legal (privileged) mail, and verify you are including the inmate’s full name and inmate ID number.
- ✓ Confirm Billing & Collections contact details (addresses, phone, and email) before you go in person or send sensitive information.
