What to Do When Your Relationship Request Is Still Pending at Polunsky Unit

A "pending" relationship request usually means it's still waiting on review at the unit. Here's where to find it in the scheduler and what to do next if you're trying to schedule a visit at Polunsky.

When you submit a Relationship Request in the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler, it doesn't just float in the system. That request gets routed to the incarcerated person's unit of assignment (in this case, Polunsky) for review. Staff at the unit then verify the relationship between you and the inmate. Until that verification is complete, your request will show as waiting for approval.

If your request is still pending, you'll see it on your visitor home page under "Relation Requests Pending Approval." That's where the scheduler lists relationships that have been submitted but haven't been approved by unit staff yet. Once the unit confirms the relationship, it moves out of that pending section.

  1. Go to your home page in the scheduler. Look for the person you’re trying to visit and check what the system shows next to their name.
  2. Check the Schedule Visit area for that person. If the Schedule Visit button is blank or you see “Call Unit,” the online scheduler is telling you that you cannot schedule that visit from the site.
  3. Call the unit of assignment (Polunsky) to schedule. When the button is blank or replaced by “Call Unit,” you should schedule by calling the inmate’s unit.

Note: "Not Approved for Visits" can appear even after your relationship is confirmed. This means the inmate's visitation privileges have been removed at the unit, so the scheduler replaces the Schedule Visit button with that message.
