What You Can and Can't Do During a Contact Visit at Polunsky Unit

Contact visits come with specific rules, and staff watch closely to make sure everyone follows them. Knowing what's expected ahead of time lets you focus on your time together instead of worrying about a violation.

A "contact" visit is one of the visit types listed in the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler. When you request a visit, you may see "Contact" as the visit type option. That's the category tied to the contact-visit rules below.

You can embrace and kiss during a contact visit, but only twice total: once at the beginning and once at the end. Repeating it throughout the visit breaks the rule and could get your visit cut short.

Hands rule: Holding hands is allowed, but only if your hands stay on top of the table and in full view of staff.

Your visit will be monitored, so treat visitation as a privilege, not a guarantee. Staff can temporarily restrict visitation for an inmate or a visitor if rule violations or security concerns come up. Visits can also be paused during unit lockdowns, serious incidents (like escapes or disturbances), or health and safety emergencies. Even though "Contact" is one of the visit types listed on the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler, any scheduled visit can still be affected by these restrictions if conditions change.
