How to Send Mail to Someone at Gwinnett County Jail (postcards only)
Gwinnett County Jail routes most personal mail through a central processing system, and it has to be a postcard. Follow the size, ink, and address rules below, and your message is much more likely to arrive without delays.
Don't mail personal correspondence directly to the jail. Instead, send it through JailATM, a central mail processing facility. That's the route for regular inmate mail. A few exceptions: legal correspondence, religious mail, packages, and money orders go directly to Gwinnett County Jail in Lawrenceville. Still include the inmate's name and ID on these items.
Mailing address (most inmate mail): JailATM.com – Gwinnett County Jail, Inmate Name / Inmate ID# 925B Peachtree St. NE Box 2062, Atlanta, GA 30309.
Postcard Format
- ✓ Use a postcard that’s at least 3.5 × 4.25 inches
- ✓ Don’t exceed 4.25 × 6 inches
- ✓ Write only in black or blue ink, or pencil
- ✓ Include your name and a complete return address
- ✓ Plain postcards are allowed
- ✓ Pictured postcards are allowed
Note: At Gwinnett County Jail, all incoming mail to inmates (except legal correspondence) must be a postcard.
Addressing is straightforward - you just need the inmate's identifying information. Write the inmate's name on one line, their ID number on the next, then use the JailATM address in Atlanta for most mail. Use the jail's Lawrenceville address only for legal correspondence, religious mail, packages, or money orders. Send those directly to: Gwinnett County Jail, Inmate Name / Inmate ID#, 2900 University Parkway, Lawrenceville, GA 30043.
- ✓ If you’re mailing a money order, address the envelope to Gwinnett County Jail (2900 University Parkway, Lawrenceville, GA 30043)
- ✓ Write the inmate’s name and ID number on the money order
- ✓ Write “For Deposit Only” on the envelope
Prohibited Content
- ✓ Don’t send anything with biohazards (including lipstick marks or perfume)
- ✓ Don’t send sexually explicit content or nudity
What happens to rejected mail depends on where it gets flagged. If the Central Mail Processing Facility rejects it, the item is destroyed. If the jail itself receives and rejects an item, it may be returned to you. Either way, rejected scanned mail is stored electronically for investigative purposes.
Want to send a letter or photos? You'll need to work within the postcard-only rule. Personal mail (other than legal correspondence) must be in postcard format - plain or pictured, your choice. For reading material, the jail accepts magazines, non-local newspaper subscriptions, and books only when mailed directly from the publisher or an authorized retailer. Packages from eBay or Amazon independent sellers won't be accepted.
Note: The sender matters for books and packages. Gwinnett only accepts these items directly from the publisher or an authorized retailer - not from eBay or Amazon independent sellers.
