First-Time Visitor Checklist for Hamilton Work Camp

Before you make the trip to Hamilton Work Camp, make sure you're actually approved to visit. Wait until the inmate confirms your visitation application went through - show up without approval and you'll be turned away at the door.

Anyone 16 or older needs a valid photo ID to enter the visiting area. Bring just one - each visitor is limited to a single photographic identification card.

Tip: Keep your photo ID handy. You'll need to show it at check-in if you're 16 or older.

Dress Code

  • Wear a shirt and shoes (both are required).
  • Skip dresses, skirts, or Bermuda-length shorts that are more than 3 inches above the knee.

Watch your footwear: Heelys and any shoes with removable parts aren’t allowed.

Permitted Items

  • Bring no more than $50 in cash per visitor, and only in $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills (for vending machine snacks/drinks). Don’t give money to an inmate.
  • Bring one vehicle key.
  • Leave keyless-entry devices behind unless duty staff visually inspect and approve the device as your only way to access the vehicle and not a security threat.

If you’re visiting with an infant, pack light and stay within the limits: no more than five diapers, three clear baby bottles, two toddler sipper cups, and three clear plastic jars of sealed (unopened) baby food.

Build your day around the visiting schedule. Saturdays and Sundays, hours run 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Weekdays are 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM (Central).

  1. Aim for the start of processing - Entry processing for visits begins at 8:15 AM (7:15 AM Central).
  2. Beat the cutoff - No visitors are processed after 2:00 PM (1:00 PM Central), so arriving late can end your visit before it starts.

Hard cutoff: If you arrive after 2:00 PM (1:00 PM Central), you won’t be processed for a visit.
