What to Wear (and What Not to Wear) When Visiting Someone in a Florida Prison
Dress code rules at Florida prisons can be strict. The easiest way to avoid a canceled visit is to show up in simple, conservative clothing that meets the facility's requirements.
If you're 16 or older, bring a valid picture ID. Without acceptable photo identification, you can be denied entry.
Two basics are required every time: a shirt and shoes. Show up without either one, and your visit can be over before it starts. Even if the rest of your outfit checks out, missing a shirt or shoes is an automatic no. Keep it simple. Regular, everyday clothing works fine.
Footwear rule: Heelys are not allowed, and neither is any footwear with removable parts.
ID 3
- ✓ Halter tops or other braless attire
- ✓ Underwear-type T-shirts
- ✓ Tank tops
- ✓ Fish net shirts
- ✓ Any clothing made with see-through fabric or that is skin-tight
Common trip-up: See-through fabric and skin-tight clothing are not allowed, for men or women.
Pay close attention to the length of your bottoms. Dresses, skirts, and Bermuda-length shorts cannot be more than three inches (3") above the knee.
Graphics and wording on clothing can also get you turned away. If an officer considers a picture or phrase profane or offensive, you won't be allowed in. Camouflage is prohibited too. That includes jungle (green), urban (grey/black), and desert (tan/brown) patterns.
