What You Can (and Can't) Bring to a Florida Prison Visit: Cash, Medications, and Baby Supplies

Florida prison visits go smoother when you show up with only what's allowed. Use the rules below as your packing checklist, especially for cash, prescription meds, and baby items.

Staff are not allowed to hold or store anything for visitors. If you show up with extra property, there's no option to hand it off for safekeeping. Bring only authorized items so you're not scrambling to deal with things you can't take inside.

Each visitor (regardless of age) can bring up to $50.00 in cash for snacks and beverages from the visiting area's vending machines. Stick to $1, $5, $10, or $20 bills only.

Everything you buy from the vending machines has to be consumed in the visiting area. The cash is for visitor purchases only. You cannot give money to an inmate under any circumstances.

Prescription Medication

  • Bring only the dosage of prescription medication you need for the period of the visit.
  • Keep each prescription in its original prescribed container.
  • Make sure the label is clearly readable and shows the medication, the dosage, and the name of the person it was prescribed to.
  • Do not combine different types of medication in the same container (mixed containers are not allowed).

Warning: Do not bring needles or syringes into any facility. If you require medical injections, you must leave the institution for that treatment, then return afterward.

Baby Items

  • No more than five (5) diapers.
  • Up to three (3) clear baby bottles.
  • Up to two (2) toddler sipper cups.
  • Up to three (3) clear plastic jars of sealed (unopened) baby food.
  • Baby wipes or towelettes only if they are in a clear bag.

Bringing an infant or baby carrier? Expect it to be searched before you enter. You'll need to remove the infant from the carrier during the search.

Bring something that's not on the authorized list, or more than the allowed amounts? You'll need to find a secure location for those items during your visit (as long as nothing is contraband or illegal). Staff can't hold or store visitor property, so securing anything you can't take inside is entirely on you.
