Travel light. Inside the secured perimeter, you're limited to a small wallet, a clear Ziploc-type bag, or a change purse. Nothing bulky.

If you want to use the vending machines in the visitation area, bring coins only. You can take in up to $35 in coins, and paper money isn’t allowed.

Infant Toddler Items

  • No more than 3 diapers
  • A supply of baby wipes
  • Two baby bottles (or a sippy cup for toddlers)
  • Pack these items in a clear plastic bag

If you're 18 or older, bring a current, government-issued photo ID. At least one of your ID documents must show your current physical address. One exception: if you're a certified victim of family violence under the Attorney General's address protection program, you don't need to meet the address requirement. Bring your standard address-protection documentation along with your ID so you're not held up at the front desk.

Prohibited Items

  • Food items
  • Purses
  • Diaper bags
  • Cameras
  • Paper money
  • Cell phones
  • Laptop computers
  • Digital recorders
  • Any other electronic/wireless devices
  • Medications (handled case-by-case by unit staff)

Licensed to carry a handgun? You can only have it on TDCJ property if it's unloaded and properly secured in your vehicle. That means one of these: a locked weapons box in a locked vehicle, a locked compartment in a locked vehicle, the trunk of a locked vehicle with a locking device on the firearm, or a locked vehicle with the firearm hidden from view and a locking device attached.

  1. Confirm the person is assigned to Hamilton Unit - unit assignments can change, so make sure you’re headed to the right place.
  2. Verify the visitation schedule - check the unit’s current schedule before you plan your day.
  3. Call the unit for final confirmation before you travel - visitation information can change, and visits can be canceled.
