Why You Can't Call an Inmate at Harris County Jail — How Phone Communication Actually Works

Harris County Jail doesn't allow inmates to receive inbound phone calls. You can't call the jail and get connected to someone inside - there's no direct line or transfer option.

All calls start from the inmate's end. When they dial out, the system checks whether your number has an Advance Pay account. If it does, the call goes through and you'll hear automated prompts. Follow those instructions to accept and start talking.

Why You Can't Call an Inmate at Harris County Jail — How Phone Communication Actually Works

If your phone blocks collect calls, setting up an Advance Pay account is the fix. You - the person receiving calls - create the account, not the inmate. For setup instructions, contact Securus at 1-800-844-6591.

With Advance Pay set up, call costs come out of that balance. Each time you accept a call through the automated system, the charge gets deducted automatically.

  1. Call Securus for setup instructions - Contact Securus at 1-800-844-6591 to learn how to establish an Advance Pay account for receiving inmate calls.
  2. Set up the Advance Pay account for your number - Advance Pay is created by the call recipient, so make sure your phone number is tied to the account.
  3. Accept the call when it comes in - If an Advance Pay account exists, the system places the call and you’ll need to follow the automated instructions to accept it.

A quick note on privacy: calls from inmates may be recorded and monitored. Assume anything said on the line could be reviewed.

Warning: Any attempt to transfer the call or add someone through a conference call will disconnect the call.

Here's something that catches people off guard: phone funds don't follow the inmate. If someone gets transferred between facilities, money in the Securus system can't be moved to Correct Solutions Group, or vice versa.

Need phone service info for LaSalle Correctional Center? That's a different vendor. Call Correct Solutions Group at (877) 618-3516.

  • Confirm which company holds the balance (Securus or Correct Solutions Group).
  • Contact the company directly for information about refunds or other deposit-related concerns.
  • If the inmate has been moved, plan on setting up service with the vendor used at the new facility, since balances can’t be transferred between systems.
