What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind) for Your First Visit to Hartford Correctional Center

Before you make the trip, confirm you're on the incarcerated person's approved visiting list. Not on the list? You won't get in - even with ID and perfect timing. Also double-check that the person you're visiting still has active visiting privileges for the day you plan to come.

Bring a valid photo ID. You’ll be asked to show it to enter the facility, and you can be turned away if you don’t have it with you.

Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit so you have time to check in. If you’re late, the visit may be shortened - or canceled - because visiting runs on a strict schedule.

Leave your cell phone and any other electronics at home or locked in your car. They're not allowed inside, and showing up with them can slow down check-in - or end your visit before it starts.

Bringing children? Keep the visitor limit in mind: only two visitors total per in-person visit, and that includes kids. Everyone who visits must be on the approved list - you can't add a child or another adult at the door.
