5 Ways to Send Money to Someone in a VADOC Facility (and Which Is Fastest)
Need to put money on someone's account in a Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) facility? You have five options through JPay. Here's how each one works, plus which method gets funds there fastest.
Every method requires the inmate's 7-digit Inmate ID Number. You'll enter it when paying online, give it over the phone, use it in the mobile app, or include it on the paperwork with a mailed money order to the JPay lockbox.
Warning: Never mail money directly to VADOC facilities or headquarters. Cash, checks, and other monetary items will be rejected.
Speed matters? Use JPay online with a credit or debit card. VADOC lists this as the fastest way to get money to an inmate.
- Get the 7-digit Inmate ID - you will need it to send money through JPay.
- Use JPay online to send money - choose the option to send money and enter the inmate’s information.
- Pay with a credit or debit card - complete the online payment through JPay and confirm the details before submitting.
No computer? You still have two electronic options. Call JPay at 1 (800) 574-5729 to pay over the phone anytime, or download the JPay mobile app (available for Android and Apple iOS) to send money from your phone.
Reminder: Have the inmate's 7-digit Inmate ID Number ready before you call or open the app. You'll need it to complete the payment.
Prefer to pay in cash? You can deposit at MoneyGram agent locations. VADOC lists these as an option, including Walmart and CVS Pharmacy. Availability depends on what's near you.
- ✓ The inmate’s 7-digit Inmate ID Number
- ✓ Cash for the deposit
- ✓ A MoneyGram agent location (including Walmart or CVS Pharmacy)
Want to mail a payment? VADOC accepts money orders sent to JPay's lockbox (not the prison itself). Send your money order with a deposit slip to: JPay, P.O. Box 278170, Miramar, FL 33027.
This is the slowest option since the mail has to arrive first. Once JPay receives your money order, funds become available to the inmate within three business days.
Note: Never mail cash, checks, or other monetary items to VADOC facilities or headquarters. They'll be rejected. Money orders sent to JPay's lockbox are available within three business days after JPay receives them.
