You must be 17 or older to visit Hidalgo County Adult Detention Facility. Anyone younger can only visit during Children's week - the first complete week of each month, Friday through Monday.

Got an expired photo ID? If you're 17 or older, you can still visit - just bring the expired ID along with one additional document: a valid voter registration certificate or a utility bill showing your name and address. Bring originals so staff can verify them at check-in.
- Pick one accepted photo ID - If you’re 17 or older, bring a valid photo ID from the facility’s accepted list.
- If your ID is expired, pack a backup document - Bring your expired photo ID plus either a valid voter registration certificate or a utility bill in your name with your address.
- Have everything ready at check-in - Keep your ID (and any backup document) easy to reach so you can hand it to staff for verification.
Note: Visitation can be denied if you refuse to show proper identification or if you refuse to submit to a search.
