Sending money to an inmate at HighTower: who can deposit and how
Trying to put money on someone's account at the HighTower Unit? The biggest stumbling block is usually who's actually allowed to send it. Here's the rule, your deposit options, and the eCommDirect limits that catch people off guard.
Since September 1, 2020, only people on an inmate's approved visitor list or Inmate Telephone List can deposit money. Not on either list? Your deposit probably won't go through. Before you send anything, confirm you're approved to visit or listed for phone calls for that specific inmate - those are the two categories the policy recognizes.
HighTower's Inmate Trust Fund accepts money orders and cashier's checks. You can also set up ACH - a monthly debit from your checking account using an ACH authorization form.
Approved vendor systems offer another way to send funds or make eligible purchases. Your options include Access Corrections (ACE – America's Cash Express), JPay, TouchPay, and eCommDirect (provided by Texas.gov). Each service has its own process, so follow the deposit instructions for whichever one you choose.
Commissary Ecomm Limits
- ✓ Only one eCommDirect purchase per inmate may be completed per day.
- ✓ Newly received inmates are not eligible for eCommDirect purchases until the next calendar quarter.
These limits apply only to eCommDirect purchases through Texas.gov. Using a different option like ACE, JPay, or TouchPay? Follow that provider's rules instead.
- Confirm you’re allowed to send funds - you must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list or on the inmate’s Inmate Telephone List to deposit money.
- Pick an accepted deposit method - use a money order/cashier’s check, set up an ACH monthly checking account debit (with the required authorization forms), or use an approved vendor option like Access Corrections (ACE), eCommDirect (Texas.gov), JPay, or TouchPay.
- Follow the instructions for that method - each option has its own steps and required information, so complete the deposit exactly as the provider directs.
- Watch for the deposit to post - after you submit payment, check the inmate’s trust fund information to confirm the funds were credited.
Heads up on eCommDirect: You can only complete one eCommDirect purchase per inmate per day. Also, newly received inmates can't get eCommDirect purchases until the next calendar quarter.
