HighTower Unit holds visits on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Plan your day around that window - your actual visit time will fall somewhere within those weekend hours.

TDCJ runs visitation on a "visiting cycle" that goes from Monday through the following Sunday. Under the standard rule, eligible inmates get one visit per cycle. For most families, that means one visit per week - even though visits only happen on weekends.

Note: One visit per week is the normal schedule, but visits can be temporarily restricted or suspended when security or safety issues arise.

Custody level affects what type of visit your loved one qualifies for and how often. Inmates classified as G1, J1, or J2 are allowed one contact visit per week. If your loved one falls into one of those categories, you can generally count on a weekly contact visit as long as they remain eligible.

How this fits together: Custody-level visit allowances work within the weekly visiting cycle. So "one contact visit per week" lines up with "one visit per visiting cycle."

Even when you're following the schedule, things can change quickly. Visits are a privilege, and the unit prioritizes safety and security. A visit can be temporarily restricted for an inmate or visitor if rule violations occur or staff have security concerns. Visitation can also be suspended during lockdowns, serious incidents like escapes or disturbances, or health emergencies.

If in-person visits are limited for a while, other options exist. TDCJ offers remote video visits (kiosk video) for eligible inmates - these can happen once per month for up to 60 minutes.
