Standard in-person visiting hours at TDCJ units are Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. But even within those weekend windows, how often you can go still depends on the custody level rules that apply to the person you're visiting.

Here's a concrete example. Under TDCJ visitation rules, inmates classified as G1, J1, or J2 are eligible for one contact visit per week. If you're being told you can't schedule more than that, it's not personal. It's the classification-based limit that staff are expected to follow.

Looking to stretch your time together? Remote video visits can be another option for eligible inmates. TDCJ allows remote video visits in addition to contact or general visits, and they may occur once per month for up to 60 minutes. For some families, that monthly video call helps fill the gaps when travel or weekly scheduling gets tough.

Note: If you're traveling more than 250 miles one way, extended visits (up to four hours) may be permitted at the warden's (or designee's) discretion when time and space allow.

TDCJ updates its visitation schedule information once daily on weekdays and multiple times per day on visitation days. That's helpful, but it also means things can shift quickly.
