Understanding Hodge Unit's Visiting Hours, Two-Hour Time Limit, and Visit Frequency
Visiting rules can feel overwhelming at first—especially when you're juggling work, travel, and family schedules. Here's how visiting hours, the two-hour time limit, and weekly visit frequency work at the Hodge Unit.
Standard visitation at the Hodge Unit happens on weekends only. Visiting days are Saturday and Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Plan within that window - those are the only baseline days and times the unit uses for regular visits.
Each regular contact visit is capped at two hours. The clock doesn't start when you pull into the parking lot or check in - it begins when the inmate and all visitors are present together. Want to protect that full two hours? Arrive early and get everyone ready before the visit officially starts.
Visit frequency is tracked by "visiting cycles," not calendar months. A cycle runs Monday through Sunday - so even though visits happen on weekends, the weekly reset starts each Monday.
Eligible inmates are generally allowed one visit per visiting cycle. That's one visit during each Monday–Sunday period - not one per day or per weekend. Visit on Saturday? That uses up the cycle. Your next visit would fall into the following week's cycle, starting Monday.
Custody level affects how often someone can receive visits. Inmates in G1, J1, and J2 custody levels get one contact visit per week. The same one-visit-per-week rule applies to G2, G3, P2, P3, P6, and P7 with SAT 3. Not sure which custody level applies? Confirm before planning multiple trips in the same cycle.
Traveling a long distance? You may be able to request an extended visit - but it's not automatic. Extended visits may be permitted at the warden's (or designee's) discretion for visitors who travel more than 250 miles one way. Approval depends on whether the unit can accommodate it.
When approved, an extended visit can last up to four hours. That extra time makes a real difference if you're coming from far away and trying to cut down on trips.
Planning Tips
- ✓ Plan your visit for Saturday or Sunday, and aim to be there within the 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. visiting window.
- ✓ Give yourself extra time so the two-hour visit limit is spent visiting (the two hours starts when the inmate and all visitors are present).
- ✓ Track visits by the Monday–Sunday visiting cycle so you don’t accidentally use up the week’s visit and then arrive expecting another one in the same cycle.
Note: Visit frequency depends on custody level - some levels allow only one contact visit per week. If you're traveling more than 250 miles one way, the warden or designee may approve an extended visit of up to four hours.
