When to call Hodge Unit instead of using the online scheduler (and what to have ready)

When the online scheduler won't let you book a visit at Hodge Unit, a quick phone call can save you a wasted trip. Here's how to spot the situations that require a call—and what to have ready when you dial.

Two messages in the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler mean it's time to pick up the phone. If the Schedule Visit button is blank or shows

Even when the scheduler is working normally, it isn’t the final word. Visitation information is updated regularly, but it won’t always reflect unit decisions the moment they happen. If you’re seeing confusing options or you’re about to travel, calling Hodge Unit is the best way to get final confirmation.

Much of what determines whether you can schedule a visit happens at the unit level. When you request to be added as a visitor through the scheduler, that request goes to Hodge Unit staff for verification. Even after you're verified, the inmate still needs to have visitation privileges. If those privileges have been removed - or the unit needs to verify something - the scheduler may not give you a clean

Tip: If you’re not sure you’re an approved visitor for someone at Hodge Unit, call the unit and ask them to verify your approval before you make the trip.

S3

  • The inmate’s 8-digit TDCJ or SID number
  • The email/account details you used for the Online Visitation Scheduler, plus your name and any visitor identity details the unit asks for
  • A reminder for yourself: you must create your own scheduler account - unit staff can’t create an account for you

When you call, focus on two things: Is the inmate currently assigned to Hodge Unit? Do they have visitation privileges? Online information may update throughout the day or only once daily, so treat your phone call as final confirmation - especially if you're traveling a long distance or working around a tight schedule.

  1. Ask if your visitor approval is still pending - If your relationship request is in the system, Hodge Unit staff are the ones who verify the visitor/inmate relationship.
  2. Ask whether the inmate currently has visitation privileges - Approval to visit and the inmate’s current privileges aren’t always the same thing.
  3. Ask what the next step is - If you’re not approved right now, request the correct follow-up steps so you don’t lose time guessing.

Bring with you: You'll need a valid photo ID for your visit. Even if your approval comes through at the last minute, you won't get in without acceptable photo identification at check-in.
