The New Digital Mail System for Hutchison State Jail: Where to Send Letters and Photos

As of September 6, 2023, TDCJ moved all units - including Hutchison State Jail - to a digital mail platform. Personal mail no longer goes directly to the unit. Instead, it's sent to the Digital Mail Processing Center, where staff sort, scan, and upload it for the inmate to view on their secure tablet. The system is designed to reduce contraband while still letting people receive letters and photos.

For personal letters and photos, address your envelope to the Digital Mail Processing Center in Dallas. Include the inmate's full first and last name plus their TDCJ number. With the digital mail program, most personal mail and photos go through the Digital Mail Processing Center first. Staff sort and scan your items, then upload them so the inmate can read and view them on their secure tablet. If you've always sent printed photos or handwritten letters straight to the unit, this is the key difference - your mail gets routed for scanning before it reaches the person you're writing.
