Residents at Hutchinson Correctional Facility can receive letters, postcards, and photographs. Photos must meet the facility's size and content guidelines. All incoming mail gets inspected, and anything containing illegal or unauthorized items will be held back.

Note: Staff can censor or reject mail they consider a security threat or sexually explicit.

Don't include postage stamps in your mail. Stamps sent to residents aren't allowed, and they're one of the most common reasons mail gets rejected or returned.

Reminder: Even harmless-seeming items can be censored if staff consider them a security risk or sexually explicit.

Photos are allowed, but keep them simple. Polaroids aren't permitted, and all photos get inspected. Residents can keep up to 50 photographs total, and each one must be 8x10 or smaller. Oversized prints will cause problems.

Personal mail has limits too. Residents can only keep 10 letters in their possession at a time. Older letters may need to be mailed home, stored, or discarded before new ones can be kept.

Reading material is also restricted. Residents can have up to 12 books and 10 magazines in their cell. If they're at the limit, they'll need to make space before keeping anything new.

Tip: Anything that exceeds the limits - or gets flagged as a security concern or explicit content - may be removed or censored.
