How to Apply to Visit Someone at Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC)

At Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC), every visitor must submit a visiting application and complete a background check before their first visit. Until both are done and approved, you won't be allowed in. Think of the application as step one of the visit itself, not optional paperwork.

Timing for new arrivals: If the person you want to visit is new to prison, wait until they’ve been classified before you submit your application. Residents are not allowed visitors during reception and diagnostic processing.

Download the visiting application and related forms from the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) visiting page. That page also includes the visiting rules - read them before you fill anything out. Make sure you grab the correct form (adult versus minor) so your paperwork matches who's actually coming.

How Complete Application

  • Use your full legal name (the same name shown on your ID)
  • Double-check your date of birth and contact information before you submit
  • List any other names you’ve used if the form asks (such as a maiden name)
  • Be clear about your relationship to the resident
  • Write legibly (or type, if that’s an option) so staff can read every field
  • Fill out every required line - missing answers are one of the easiest ways to slow things down
  • Review the form once more before mailing it so you don’t have to restart the process

When mailing your application, use the facility's required addressing format so it reaches the right place. Include the resident's name and ID number, then the facility and unit. On the next line, write "ISCC - PO Box 70010" followed by "Boise, ID 83707." Small addressing mistakes can cause big delays - copy the format carefully.

After you submit your application, the background check typically takes two to four weeks. Once it's complete, visiting room staff notify the resident. The resident is then responsible for letting you know whether you were approved or denied.

While you wait, you can confirm where the resident is housed and what schedule applies by contacting ISCC visiting staff. The IDOC resident/client search tool also shows housing location and the corresponding visiting schedule - useful for planning ahead once you're approved.

How to Apply to Visit Someone at Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC)
  1. Confirm the resident’s current housing location - Use the IDOC resident/client search tool or contact ISCC visiting staff so you’re working with the right facility and schedule information.
  2. Give it the normal processing window - The application and background-check process normally takes two to four weeks, so try to avoid re-submitting paperwork too early.
  3. Ask the resident if they’ve been notified - Staff notify the resident when the process is complete, and the resident is responsible for telling you the decision.
  4. Follow up with visiting staff if you’re past the timeline - If it’s been longer than the normal two-to-four-week window, contact ISCC visiting staff to ask what your next step should be.
  5. If you were denied, get clarity on what to do next - Denials are communicated through the resident, so start by asking what reason was given and whether you can reapply or correct an issue.
