Understanding Imperial County Jail's Three Facilities: RADF, HHCC, and OFDF
Trying to figure out where someone is housed in Imperial County? The county runs three separate jail facilities, and knowing which one matters for planning visits and staying in touch. Here's how RADF, HHCC, and OFDF differ—and what to do next.
Imperial County runs three jail facilities with a combined 876 beds. Everyone housed in the system is entitled to at least two visits totaling one hour per week - a helpful baseline to keep in mind, even though schedules and procedures vary by location.
The facilities house both men and women, including people who are sentenced and those awaiting trial. The system also holds county and federal inmates, so where your loved one ends up may depend on more than just where they were arrested.
RADF is one of Imperial County's three jail facilities. If you're trying to track someone down early in the process, RADF is often a good place to start. People are frequently housed there during initial medical screening and classification interviews - after which they may stay at RADF or be transferred to HHCC or OFDF.

- ✓ Sign up at least one hour before the scheduled visit time.
- ✓ Expect first-come, first-served processing for visit sign-ups.
- ✓ Bring a valid, current (not expired) local, state, or federal U.S. government ID when you sign up/visit.
Herbert Hughes Correctional Center (HHCC) looks different from the typical "cell block" setup you might picture. It has six dormitory-style housing areas with a total of 314 beds.
Each dorm at HHCC has tablets available. People housed there can use them to submit requests, file medical requests and grievances, and contact family. If your loved one is at HHCC, tablets are one of the main tools they'll use for day-to-day needs and staying in touch.
Good to know: At HHCC, sentenced individuals who are working and participating in programs can earn in-person visits on the front lawn through family reunification programs.
OFDF has six two-tiered housing units with 274 beds total. The facility also includes a Medical Center with space for four additional people, which is how it handles medical housing needs.
Hearing different facility names and not sure where to start? You're not alone. Imperial County's jail system includes RADF, HHCC (314 beds across six dorms), and OFDF (274 beds in six two-tiered units, plus a four-bed medical center). Where someone is housed affects daily life and how you plan for contact. HHCC's dorm-style setup, for example, comes with a pathway for sentenced individuals who are working and in programs to earn in-person visits through family reunification programs.
