How to Send Money to Someone at Rhode Island DOC (Online, Phone, Kiosk, or Mail)

RIDOC partners with Access Secure Deposits (AccessCorrections) to process inmate account deposits. Most people use one of three vendor options: an online deposit through AccessCorrections, a toll-free phone deposit, or a deposit kiosk. If you'd rather skip the vendor, RIDOC accepts mailed payments to the Inmate Accounts Office. Just know that vendor options come with service fees - online deposits start "as low as $2.95," and phone deposits start "as low as $3.95."

How to Send Money to Someone at Rhode Island DOC (Online, Phone, Kiosk, or Mail)

To deposit online, go to www.accesscorrections.com. The fee is advertised "as low as $2.95," so expect a service charge at checkout.

Prefer to pay by phone? Call Access Secure Deposits/AccessCorrections at 1-866-345-1884. Phone deposits are advertised "as low as $3.95," and you'll pay a service fee just like with online deposits.

Note: Those "as low as" amounts are advertised sample fees - not guaranteed totals. Save your confirmation or receipt in case you ever need to verify the transaction.

Deposit kiosks through Access Secure Deposits/AccessCorrections are another option. Check the vendor's website or RIDOC's information for kiosk locations and instructions.

To mail a deposit, send a check, bank draft, or money order to: RI Department of Corrections, Inmate Accounts Office, 51 West Road, Bldg. 138, Cranston, RI 02920. Make it payable to RI Department of Corrections and write the inmate's name and ID# on the memo line.

Tip: Include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your mailed deposit, and RIDOC will send you deposit slips on request. These slips help ensure funds reach the right account. Remember: mailed deposits must be a check, bank draft, or money order.

Before sending money, confirm you're eligible to deposit. RIDOC requires depositors to be on the inmate's visiting list. The exception: during the first 30 days while the inmate sets up their visiting list, anyone can deposit funds.

RIDOC also allows two additional names for "money purposes only" beyond the nine authorized visitors. These two people can make deposits but cannot visit - so being approved for deposits doesn't give you visiting privileges.

Reminder: If your deposit gets blocked, first check whether you're on the visiting list or if the 30-day grace period still applies. "Money purposes only" spots are strictly for deposits - not visits.

Practical Tips

  • Double-check the inmate’s name and ID# every time, especially on mailed payments where the memo line matters.
  • Keep your receipt or confirmation number for online and phone deposits.
  • Expect vendor service fees for online and phone deposits; the fees are advertised as “as low as” amounts.

Questions about a mailed payment? Need deposit slips? Contact the RIDOC Inmate Accounts Office at 51 West Road, Bldg. 138, Cranston, RI 02920. Always include the inmate's name and ID on anything you send.
