How to Send Money to Someone at the Travisono Intake Service Center
Putting money on someone's account at the Travisono Intake Service Center is straightforward once you pick the deposit method that works for you.
There are four ways to send money to someone in RIDOC custody: deposit online through Access Secure Deposits (AccessCorrections), deposit by phone through Access Secure Deposits, mail a payment to the Inmate Accounts Office, or make a deposit in person at the Inmate Accounts office window. Online and phone deposits are usually the fastest. Mail and in-person deposits work well if you prefer paper payments or want to handle things at the office window.
To deposit online, go to www.accesscorrections.com and follow the prompts for Rhode Island Department of Corrections. To deposit by phone, call Access Secure Deposits at 1-866-345-1884. Either way, you'll need the incarcerated person's name and ID number, so have those ready before you start.
Access Secure Deposits accepts MasterCard and Visa debit and credit cards. Fees vary, but according to RIDOC Inmate Accounts information, internet deposits start as low as $2.95 and toll-free phone deposits start as low as $3.95.
Tip: Enter the inmate's name and ID number exactly as they were given to you. Save your confirmation or receipt number after submitting the deposit.
- Choose an approved payment type: Send a check, bank draft, or money order.
- Make it payable correctly: Write it payable to “RI Department of Corrections.”
- Label it for the right account: Put the inmate’s name and ID# on the memo line.
- Mail it to Inmate Accounts: RI Department of Corrections, Inmate Accounts Office, 51 West Road, Bldg. 138, Cranston, RI 02920.
You can deposit in person at the Inmate Accounts office, located in the John O. Pastore Government Center at 51 West Road, Cranston, RI 02920 (adjacent to the John Moran Facility). The deposit window is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The office is closed on State Holidays.
Reminder: Check the posted window hours and State Holiday closures before you go so you don't show up when the deposit window is closed.
You'll need a photo ID to make any deposit into an inmate's account. A driver's license, state ID, or passport all work. Bring one with you for in-person deposits, and keep it handy in case you're asked to verify your identity for other deposit methods.
Here's a rule that catches people off guard: you generally must be on the inmate's visiting list to deposit funds into their account. The one exception is a 30-day grace period that allows anyone to deposit money while the inmate is still adding people to their visiting list.
RIDOC commissary services are run by Keefe Commissary Network. The money you deposit goes into the person's account and can be used for commissary purchases through that system.
Common Problems
- ✓ If an online or phone payment will not go through, confirm you are using a MasterCard or Visa debit or credit card.
- ✓ If you mail a payment, double-check that it is payable to “RI Department of Corrections” and that the inmate’s name and ID# are written on the memo line.
- ✓ If you plan to deposit in person, confirm you are arriving Monday through Friday during the window hours (9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM) and not on a State Holiday closure.
If you still can't complete the deposit, go back to the source of the transaction. For online deposits, visit www.accesscorrections.com. For phone deposits, call 1-866-345-1884 and have your confirmation details ready. For mailed payments, keep a copy of what you sent along with the mailing details, then follow up with the Inmate Accounts Office if the deposit doesn't post as expected.
