What to Expect During Security Screening at Travisono ISC

Security screening is a normal part of visiting at the Anthony P. Travisono Intake Service Center (Travisono ISC). Knowing what to expect makes it easier to stay calm and get through the line without delays.

Every visitor entering the Anthony P. Travisono Intake Service Center passes through a metal detector before being allowed inside. This applies at Travisono ISC and the other ACI facilities, so expect it as part of standard check-in.

Sometimes staff need an extra check beyond the metal detector. You may be asked to submit to a pat down, hand frisk, or a hand-held metal detection wand search. These are always conducted by a correctional officer of the same sex as the visitor.

Refusing a requested search, or not complying with the process, can result in your visit being denied. If you have concerns about what you're being asked to do, the best approach is to stay calm, follow instructions, and address your questions with staff as you go.

Practical Tips

  • Expect to pass through a metal detector before entering.
  • Be prepared for a same-sex pat down, hand frisk, or hand-held wand search if staff request it.
  • Use the provided lockers for personal belongings like coats or snow boots, and take the locker key with you into the visiting room.
  • If you plan to use vending machines, bring up to $10 in change in a clear plastic bag.
  • Do not smoke in visiting areas. Smoking is prohibited in all ACI facilities.
  • Follow all search instructions. Refusing a requested search can cost you the visit.

Screening is only one piece of a smooth visit. Before you go, review the current visiting rules and the permitted items list so you know what can come into the visiting area and what needs to stay in a locker.

Reminder: Refusing a search request can mean losing your visit. If you want to see your loved one that day, cooperate with screening.
