How to Apply to Visit Someone at Iowa State Penitentiary: Complete Mailing Checklist

Every adult who wants to visit must complete their own Visitor Application. Planning to go with another adult? That means two separate applications - each one printed and signed by the person visiting.

Minors don't need their own application. Instead, list them on the Visitor Application completed by their parent or legal guardian. Bringing more than one child? Include all of them on your application so they're covered for approval.

Use the Iowa DOC Visitor Application (available in English and Spanish). Electronic submissions aren't accepted - you'll need to print it, sign it, and mail in the paper copy.

Mail your completed application to: Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility, Attn: Central Records, 1200 E. Washington St., Mount Pleasant, IA 52641. If the form asks for a facility mailing code, Iowa State Penitentiary's code is ISP = 1110.

Include Inmate Identifiers

• ✓ Write the incarcerated person’s name clearly on your application
• ✓ Include the incarcerated person’s identifying number if the form asks for it
• ✓ Add the facility mailing code when applicable: Iowa State Penitentiary (ISP) = 1110

Once approved, you'll schedule visits through the Ameelio App. Iowa DOC uses Ameelio for both in-person and video visit scheduling, so it's the same system either way.
