Two Systems, Two Wallets: Sending Money for Calls/Video vs. Commissary at Jackson County Jail
Tried to
At Jackson County Jail, the lobby has two separate kiosks, and they aren’t interchangeable. One kiosk is specifically for the visits/telephone system, and the other is for commissary/store. If you pick the wrong one, the money won’t land where you intended - so it helps to decide first whether you’re trying to fund communication (calls/video) or store purchases.
For anything tied to communication - visits and telephone - deposits are handled through GettingOut. You can make those deposits online at GettingOut using a debit or credit card. If your goal is to help your person pay for calls or video visits, this is the system you want, not the commissary site.
GettingOut help: If you run into a problem with a visit/telephone deposit, GettingOut lists Customer Care at 1-866-516-0115.
For commissary/store money, Jackson County Jail uses a different system. Commissary/store deposits may be made online through JailATM. If you’re trying to help your loved one buy snacks, hygiene items, or other store goods, this is the deposit route to use.
When you’re working on commissary/store deposits, you may also see the name “Legacy.” Legacy is the jail’s store/commissary vendor, so that name is connected to the commissary side - not the visits/telephone side.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Confirm what you’re paying for first: visits/telephone (calls/video) vs. commissary/store
- ✓ In the lobby, use the correct kiosk: one is for visits/telephone and one is for commissary/store
- ✓ For visits/telephone deposits, use GettingOut online and pay with a debit or credit card
- ✓ For commissary/store deposits, use JailATM online
- ✓ If you see “Legacy,” remember that it’s the store/commissary vendor (commissary side)
After you make an online deposit - whether it’s through GettingOut for visits/telephone or through JailATM for commissary - save your confirmation. A screenshot or receipt number makes it much easier to track down what happened if the deposit doesn’t show up where you expected.
- Start with the company that took the payment - If it was a visits/telephone deposit through GettingOut, contact GettingOut Customer Care at 1-866-516-0115.
- Explain which “side” the money was meant for - Clarify whether it was intended for visits/telephone or for commissary/store (JailATM).
- Contact the jail if the vendor can’t fix it - If customer care can’t resolve the issue, the next step is to contact the jail for guidance on what to do next.
